Preperation for Debate

OPENING:
Good morning, Secretary-General and delegates of the United Nations. The issue is the passing of the new resolution which is should the General Assembly stop giving development aid to countries with bad human rights records. Some of our human rights records are women rights such as the treatment we give Saudi Arabian women. It is illegal for Saudi women to drive cars and appear in public without wearing long black cloaks and head scarves, or with a male other than their family. Another is unfair trails, torture and ill-treatment, trials are often unfair, and with defendants often having little or no legal representation. Improvements that we have accomplished and are still ongoing are counterterrorism, border security along with some improvements in government efforts to implement judicial reform and to improve educational opportunities for women. Our country is a donor of international aid. Our country has donated aid/monetary help in the past to countries during the Indian Ocean earthquake which we donated around $80 million. We also donated and helped Kashmir during the earthquake in 2005. We donated 3.3 million more than any other country and promised another 573 million. The government of Saudi Arabia supports the new resolution because we give a lot of aid to countries in need, we save money by not helping out countries, and national interest is put first before any other country.
CLOSING: 
Hello Secretary-General and delegates of the United Nations; We have come together to question upon the new resolution of suspending the rights of giving development aid to countries with bad human rights records. We Saudi Arabia think the new resolution is not necessary and unfair to countries with bad human rights. Some of our human rights is not letting Saudi Arabian women have any freedom without wearing traditional clothing covering their faces. Though, some improvements that we have made to our society is giving money and aid for countries who have been in a disaster recently such as Kashmir. The government of Saudi Arabia supports the new resolution because we give a lot of aid to countries in need, we save money by not helping out countries, and national interest is put first before any other country.




Question to Turkey:

Turkey was the first country in modern times to systematically murder a mass amount of people. The genocide of the Armenian people can be seen as the first atrocious event of the 20th century. How has Turkey proven their progress from that through their use of developmental and economic aid?

What does Turkey do economically to support itself other then the use of aid, and why is it not enough to support the country?



Question to Liberia

In 2006, president Ellen Sirleaf, made this following statement,
“Liberia should not need aid in 10 years we’ve got the resources… we’re going to from dependency to self-sufficiency.”
Keeping in mind that your main exports are timber and rubber, which are estimated to go down in supply in the near future how do you expect to support yourself without relying on foreign aid.

  • Morally shape her kingdom's foreign policy to help during national disasters and other refugee crisis

Humanitarian/Social Goals


Is Saudi Arabia lending money or aid to other countries?
Yes because Saudi Arabia is part of the IMF, and they lend money to the United States. They need the money to finance the war in Iraq.

Environmental Policies

Saudi Arabia affirmed that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has been keen in its environmental policies on adopting the concept of sustainable development and deepening it al all levels to ensue effective participation of all strata of society in the efforts to protect the environment and conserve its resources.


What has Saudi Arabia done to help our earth?
They also came up with the "Sixth's Plan" (1995-2000) which was devoted to environmental issues such as:
Safeguard and enhance the natural environment and prevent pollution by implementing
  1. Protecting the environment and safeguard its natural characteristics, in addition to the maintenance of natural resources;
  2. Protecting and developing wildlife in the Kingdom, together with preserving the natural equilibrium of its ecology in terms of the genetic diversity of its zoological and botanical makeup;
  3. Maintaining continued equilibrium with regard to optimal population distribution and environmental integration -taking into consideration the impact of population growth and consumption patterns on natural resources.
